269 Yemenis have arrived to United Kingdom seeking asylum in the first three months of 2025 according to news report published by The i Paper.

The report added that in 2024, 1,280 Yemenis made the journey to United Kingdom, 14 times more than the 91 who arrived in 2023 and five times higher than the previous highest number of 252 in 2020, when the UK saw an unprecedented number of Yemeni asylum seekers entering it.

Since the outbreak of the war, Yemenis have sought to escape the scourges of violence, economic collapse, and political instability.

Some have made arduous journeys to Djibouti, Somalia, and Somali land on small fishing boats to reach safety, and others have sought refuge in Ethiopia, where they are mostly found in remote areas on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.

A number have been able to reach Jordan and Egypt, But as the conflict has dragged on, their living conditions have deteriorated, forcing large numbers to register with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to obtain assistance and establish their legal status.

United Kingdom and Yemen had0 a long history. Yemeni community in London is small but there are much larger communities in cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, Sheffield and Cardiff.

Nearly all of those asylum seekers had a long, arduous and very dangerous journey to get into the UK.  Most crossed the English Channel in small dinghies as we see on the news.

In addition to Yemeni asylum seekers, it was confirmed that 50,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats since Labour won last year’s general election. But British officials have now begun detaining migrants under a “one in, one out” deal struck with France.
